Some interesting stuff that I have discovered recently here in the East part of the city. I especially like the fake “Wikileaks has Weapons of Mass Destruction” headline.
Partial Eclipse of the Sun

This morning when I left the house around 8 I thought the sky looked strangely gloomy. It was so much darker than it should have been. Then later at work I read that the partial eclipse of the sun had already started at sunrise. So that’s what I was looking at. Magic.
Berlin Xmas Impressions
I don’t mind repeating myself in saying that I am in love with that city – always was and always will be – eventhough or especially since I have left it 10 years ago. Everytime I go back to Berlin it’s a bit like a time trip into the past and the future.
Gladly I can still discover so many things that remind of my first big chunk of life there – although many of them are disappearing rapidly or have already done so. So when I get back – I often get a bit sentimental – especially when it’s Christmas and the city is dark and covered in snow.
lo*kee NYD bash

Wow! They pulled it off again. Another historic lo*kee party. The best way to start a new year. The people, the crew, the place and of course the tunes – perfect combo.
But I shut up and let the photos do the talking.
Actually the one photo below says it all – That’s the sweat dripping off the ceiling. Nice.

Little Big Berlin
Born and brought up in Berlin I love it when someone portrays the city in a way that shows other people why I love it so much.
This video here uses the photographic tilt-shift effect which I’ve seen in videos (and photos of course) before.
But this one here is different as the maker pilpop didn’t just rely on effects. He has caught some brilliant little moments which lift the film onto another level and show that a city can have the greatest architecture but it is the people that makes it special.

Eyes Wide Open

Wow. I have never seen eyes photographed as beautiful as those by Suren Manvelyan.
What really amazes me is that these images almost seem to be in 3D. You can really tell that the pupils are not just flat surfaces but crater like constructions. I almost feel like I m looking at a vulcano of a distant planet.

Incredible Movie made out of 35.000 Photographs
SCINTILLATION from Xavier Chassaing on Vimeo.
I just discovered this beautiful video by Xavier Chassaing. He said it’s been made with 35.000 single photographs combining “an innovative mix of stop motion and live projection mapping techniques.”
Well that still leaves me with a lot of questions. I would love to know exactly how he’s done it. A making-of video would be brilliant.
But maybe it’s better to be left in wondering awe like a little child watching a magician for the first time.
Enjoy!

Twisted Reality: Public Intimacy

Street art – I know it’s all over the media – and the topic is nothing new. And it’s been milked to the max by profit hungry art dealers and artists themselves. But I don’t care – I welcome anything that puts a splash of colour, fun and/or meaning onto the grey urban walls – anything that is not another bloody advertising poster.
I especially like stuff that modifies the places around us and turns them into dreamlike spaces for a while, where rules of our reality are twisted and bended.
This guy mentalgassi has done a project called Public Intimacy where he has pretty much done that. I particulary like the phone booth turned shower.
These kind of innocent and cute projects always remind me that nothing in life should be taken too serious. Life can be so great – if we want it to be.
